The algorithm responsible for taking the world’s information and organizing it into (usually) 10 entries is, as you likely know, complicated. Some sites have the same URL for both desktop and mobile content, but change their format according to User-agent. In other words, both mobile users and desktop users access the same URL (i.e. no redirects), but the content/format changes slightly according to the User-agent. Google is trying to better understand the semantic meanings of words by looking at how they appear in knowledge bases on the web, and understanding the properties associated with them from those knowledge bases, and also looking at the words that tend to co-occur on pages that rank highly for those words as query terms. You don't necessarily need a large social media presence, just an active one. The more you engage with the local community by responding to comments and questions, the more your Facebook, Google+, Twitter and other social profiles are likely to appear in local searches.

Basic principles about HTML headings

SEO can be a fuzzy concept that feels like more art than science. Don't let yourself be intimidated; it's easier than you think. The type of content you use on a page also matters for indexing. For example, images are indexed differently from text. It is customary to ensure that meaningful images are assigned descriptive “ALT=” text and helpful captions. Image galleries can be challenging, especially when the image owners (often artists or photographers) are reluctant to publish high quality images or visible text on a page. Targeting highly sought-after keywords can make it harder for you to rank higher in search, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t become an authority on a topic by using different phrases for the same concept. Make sure that all of your web pages can be indexed by search engines - make sure that they all have at least one link from somewhere on your site.

Don't Forget: Content and Links Are Key

An SEO specialist should know how long content needs to be and to avoid keyword stuffing. Wouldn’t it be great to give Google & Bing a list of all the pages we want them to notice? With XML sitemaps you can do just that. This is a file you add to your website (normally at yourdomain.uk/sitemap.xml) that lists the URLs for a site. Most CMSs can create one automatically for you, and let you choose to remove certain pages. Use Google’s Search Console for guidelines on Site Map creation. Once your Site Map has been created according to the Google guidelines, you should submit it to Google via Search Console. This helps Google know more about your web pages, and gives you more control over how your URLs appear in the search engine ranking pages. See what keywords are most popular in each country you’re targeting, and optimise the pages on that country’s section of your website accordingly. Also, remember that even a correct and accurate translation of a keyword or term may not be what people actually use to search for a product or service locally.

Target your website to your audience

SEO and content marketing both bring important elements to the online marketing table, and you need them both to really grow your business. It’s often a really big and complex picture that needs to have everything working together to deliver the best results. Google is showing Context is King when it comes to indexing people in Google's Index. Is your product / service trending and generate searches in the new market(s) you want to go to? Do a keyword research around the main terms for your business in the local language using Google Keyword Planner and analyse the main ones in Google trends. Gaz Hall, from SEO Hull, had the following to say: "Links back to your site from elsewhere online are an important way to improve your search ranking;"

Attract links, stop chasing links

Although bounce rate is hard to measure you should definitely monitor the trend of your bounce rate and the differences in bounce rate between your pages. If a specific page has a very high bounce rate, you should try to figure out what’s the cause. You could add links to other useful pages or call to actions to keep people on your site. The search engines are able to analyze the reading level of the document. One popular formula for doing this is the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Readability Formula, which considers things like the average word length and the number of words in a sentence to determine the level of education needed to be able to understand the sentence. Variables make it possible to automate certain processes on your site. They also make it easy to change large batches of meta descriptions for instance, since you only have to change the structure of the variable – the site fills in the data automatically. The key to success is balancing risk with reward and keeping a close eye on your budget. You need to KNOW how much risk you're willing to take on and how much money it'll take to get results.
